Abstract

This paper analyzes an apparent new link between economic and political elites with the Argentine state, examining the circulation and reconversion of directors and executive directors within the Argentine oil company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales (YPF) between 2002 and 2020. In light of this, it becomes clear that there has been a change in the interest-state relationship. This article aims to analyze the life trajectories of YPF's directors and executive directors during the period 2002-2020, to identify their attributes and create ideal types that facilitate the understanding of the interest-state relationship in this specific case. The method employed is prosopography, using socio-demographic data, educational background, and employment history of the company's directors and executive directors. The partial conclusions of this work demonstrate not only a change in the profiles of professionals leading the company over the years, from engineers to internationally oriented administrators and economists, but also the emergence of a new ideal type, the transgressor, which seems to represent an innovative way for professionals in the sector to co-opt state resources.
