An introduction to the conservative thought of Joseph de Maistre

This essay presents an introduction to the political thought of Joseph de Maistre, highlighting the content that makes this Savoyard noble contemporary of the French Revolution one of the first exponents of conservative thought. In the text, the reader will see how Maistre’s critique of the Enlightenment is structured, and the main arguments used to disqualify the principles that underpin the modern Democratic State of Law. Finally, the author draws attention to the fact that Maistre’s speech continues to resonate over time, and even after more than two hundred years, his ideas still find enthusiasts.
